Wii Still Generating Excitement
Apparently oil prices aren’t having any lasting negative affects on Nintendo’s overarching sales. Their meal ticket? The Wii.
In the beginning, the new technology was impressive, letting you interact with the on-screen world on a whole new level was impressive. But impressive enough to tempt this penny-pinching economy?
Apparently so.
Now, higher global demand definitely has something to do with it, with European sales of Wii alone rising to 200,000/week, but the US is the gaming industry’s first love since we generate them such a large portion of their profits.
So what could have people smarting over gas prices racking up frivolous game bills?
The truth is Nintendo is just that good. Since they first marketed the Wii, they haven’t stopped coming up with innovative extras and advancements.
And the genius behind this latest wave of profits? That would be Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, who took over in 2002.
He says, “We started thinking about people who weren’t playing games and asked ourselves why they were not interested. And why had some people stopped playing despite playing in their youth?”
So far, that approach has meant a 31.5% gain this past quarter. And while that’s less than originally projected, after Nintendo’s last amazing wave with the Wii, they’re probably not going to stop improving anytime soon.
