A Tall Latte With Foam Please
I really do feel bad for the thousands of Starbucks Employees who are going to lose their job in a short while or who already have had the bad news broken to them.
At best, it’s an annoying hassle to find a new job, filled with paperwork, cramped hands and even more cramped spaces to fill out everything from your name to what crimes you’ve committed in the past ten years.
At worst, it’s a loss of a much-needed income plus all of the hassle listed above.
But at the same time, I have to admire CEO Howard Schultz for taking lemons and making lemonade. Or coffee beans and making brownie Frappuccinos. I’m not sure if the analogy completely works there, but you get the idea.
Starbucks, like so many other trendy food and beverage corporations, was finding itself doing poorly due to rising costs and an otherwise loyal customer base who awakened to the reality that they could survive off of cheaper, generic coffees…at least most mornings.
But since Schultz has stepped in, changes have been implemented from cutting back on the ridiculous number of stores around every metropolis bend in America, to making plans for global domination by building more coffee cafes in Europe and Asia.
Personally, I have no doubt Schultz and these efforts will bring the coffee king back to its full status.
It just so happens that I’m not the only one who thinks so, since shares of Starbucks were up 76 cents on Tuesday, or 5.3%, at $14.99 in 4 p.m. Nasdaq Stock Market trading.
