Sometimes You Just Gotta Laugh

It’s time to stop looking at the markets for a minute. And yes, I noticed that it’s down again, but guess what? It’ll be up and down and up and down and up some more until you’re positively seasick. One of the best way to combat these markets right now is to sit tight, stay ready and rely on a little humor every once in a while.

Oh, and listen to Mt. Vernon Research advice of course. Regardless of how every other portfolio is faring, ours is not only holding strong but gaining profits as well.

But enough about us. While we’re definitely profitable, we’re usually not exceptionally funny. The following, however, is…

Regardless of your political stripes and whom you’re voting for in just 2 short weeks, this is intriguing not to mention amusing.

Did you know that Sarah Palin could affect your business? No, not in policies she influences, but just in her existence alone.

CNN today has a spread of businesses and types of businesses that have been affected by the trend.

Please Don’t Attempt This At Home

If you were planning on a hip, original costume for Halloween, stop considering dressing up as Sarah Palin. Been there, done that, and then some according to Joseph Aronesty, owner of WigSalon.com who says that “Sarah Palin style wigs” are selling as well as… well, as well as wigs can, I suppose. And Ruth Regina who owns Wiggles Dog Wigs - a scary concept to begin with - has said her business of offering the puppy variation is enjoying an increase in business thanks to Palinesque styles. They’re apparently a top seller.

Up in good old Anchorage, The Lion’s Den added the McPalin Grilled Pig Sandwich to its menu, complete with ears, eyes, a pipe cleaner snout and tail, and even a side of lipstick. Though they pulled it from the menu as being too political, Trish Keefe, one of the owners said that it wasn’t mean to make fun of either candidate. “It was just fun.”

If you played with action figures as a youngster, you might be able to relate to this one. I did, and I can’t, but that’s beside the point.

Emil Vicale of HeroBuilders.com says that his business is in high demand every time the elections come around since he started the venture way back in 2002. And when he released the Sarah Palin action figure, business was even better.

In fact, he says “It’s kind of out of hand now,” with more than 10,000 variations of the model sold. Just in case you’re wondering, you can buy the V.P. candidate in Superhero, Executive and Schoolgirl form.

I’m not even going to ask about the last one, so moving on…

Put That In Your Pipe And Smoke It

Americans are oftentimes passionate about their parties and their candidates, but sometimes that fervor gets pushed into the realm of fanaticism.

Case in point: There’s a Chilean brand of wine spelled Palin though it’s pronounced pay-Leen. And if you bet that sales of the wine have gone up, you’d be right. But even more extreme is that some liberals have reportedly boycotted the stuff. Maybe somebody should tell both sides that the wine and the person they’re thinking of have nothing to do with each other.

But at least some people have a sense of humor, as evidenced by Appellation Wine and Spirits owner Scott Pactor. Though back in June he was only selling about two cases a week, he’s sold as much as 80 cases of the Syrah variation in the same span of time since McCain announced her.

Pactor says he hasn’t found any Biden, McCain or Obama wines yet. “It would be wonderful if we could have a balanced wine ticket.”
