“Happy Thanksgiving” By Phone This Year
Oil might have climbed higher this morning, but that might be due more to unfounded optimism than informed speculation. Because people are still worried about their jobs, which means they’re more concerned with saving then spending, which means this Thanksgiving, they ain’t goin’ nowhere.
At least according to AAA predictions, compared to last year, 600,000 less people countrywide will travel 50 miles from home or more. Now you might be able to attribute some of that to people desperately grasping at any excuse they can get not to visit relatives. But that excuse only flies so far. Because let’s face it: Most of us might not always like our families, but we do love them.
So seeing them once or twice a year, especially when there’s plenty of good food to pass around, isn’t something that we normally pass up. If it were more than a few times every 365 days, that might be another story, but Thanksgiving and Christmas are mandatory catch-up dates.
Yet according to surveys, people aren’t budging… not yet anyway. That could change between now and Thursday, or now and December 25 as people get a little more nostalgic but for now, if you are traveling, you can give yourself a little extra time to prep in the morning because you won’t be experiencing the same gridlock as years gone by.
