Sponsored Link: How Much "Unclaimed Inheritance Money" Will You Collect This Year?

And Chrysler Too

Perfect timing. I really couldn’t have planned for it myself. Just to offset my point in today’s earlier article, about what GM has done wrong, Chrysler is making one of its dumber moves now.

They’ve decided to shut down their hybrid-making facilities by the end of the year. Ummm… isn’t that the kind of thinking that got them to the brink of bankruptcy in the first place?

I think that would be a yes.

If they have to make cuts, why would they start there? It just doesn’t seem to make much sense.

Nevertheless, as of December 31, they’ll be shutting down the plant and stopping all efforts at producing their first gasoline-electric versions of the Dodge Durango and Chrysler Aspen sport-utility vehicles.Their reasoning is that the two cars would have done better years ago when SUVs were in much higher demand. Quite possibly that’s sensible, but their shortsighted business plans have left them without any other plans for other hybrids for likely the whole of 2009, if not longer.

At this point, they have a total requested 3,000 orders for the hybrids, demand they don’t know if they’ll be able to meet before the year’s end.
