NYMEX
Definition: New York Mercantile Exchange. The world's largest commodity futures exchange, founded by dairy merchants in 1872. Dubbed "The Butter and Cheese Exchange of New York", in 1994, the NYMEX (home to the energy, platinum and palladium markets) merged with the COMEX (home to metals like gold, silver and copper as well as the FTSE 100 index) to become a vital part of the trading world.
