Glossary of Option Terms: Fungibles

Fungibles

Definition: Securities/goods that are interchangeable between each other, if sold by weight or number it’s a sign that they are "fungible".

Within options, fungibility helps make it possible for sellers and buyers to close out positions by taking offsetting positions; buying a long call and closing it by selling a put with the same underlying, strike price and expiration date.
